Day 2 30 August, 2023

15:00-15:05 Inna Nestoiter, привітання від команди видавництва “Макміллан”

15:05-16:05 David Spencer: Your Gateway to a brand-new world!

In this special talk for Ukraine, I’m delighted to be able to introduce to you many of the exciting new features in my latest series for teenagers, ‘Gateway to the World’. In particular I’ll be explaining how and why I believe we should be teaching our teenage students Thinking Skills and Social and Emotional Learning in today’s world, and I’ll also suggest ways to make the most of all the different elements of the series, including the brand-new Flipped Classroom and ‘Great Learners’ videos that come with the course.

16:05-16:20 Inna Nestoiter: Gateway to Ukraine

16:20-17:20 David Spencer: Mixed-Abilities, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Secondary ELT Classroom

However big or small our classes are, one of the biggest challenges we face in our day-to-day teaching is how to include and involve all of our students and make sure every single one of them makes progress. This practical talk will begin by examining the many differences that exist between the individuals in our classes and then I will suggest a wide variety of approaches and activities to help keep all of our students ‘on board’. I will also highlight a number of special features in ‘Gateway to the World’ which will precisely help teachers to deal with problems of mixed abilities and inclusion.
